Myatt’s Field North Housing PFI, London Borough of Lambeth: Community Development. Still at bid stage

The Myatt’s Field North PFI, London Borough of Lambeth, is for the reprovison or refurbishment of existing social housing together with new private housing, a park, retail and community centre. There will be 1000 homes in total.

Pinnacle Consulting have been commissioned by Regenter to ensure that there is a plan in place which will allow the community to realise the maximum benefit from this £100m PFI investment.

The existing community has various organisations working within it to help people living in this area of extremely high deprivation; they are all looking forward to the injection of new resources and provision of new facilities but are anxious that there is a coordinated approach.

Pinnacle Consulting have consulted with them and other key stakeholders to present community development proposals to the London Borough of Lambeth and the existing Tenant’s Management Organisation (TMO).

These proposals have been integrated with Regenter’s proposals for housing management and tenant involvement so that there is a strong, cohesive plan for capacity building and delivery.

Key outcomes include:

• Developing the consortium’s understanding of the key issues in the PFI area together with mapping existing service and community provision.
• Key community leaders have been identified and relationships established.
• Preparation of a business plan for the new community development organisation, based on consultation and in-house experience of all aspects of the voluntary sector including governance.
• As well as forming the community development proposals, the plan has influenced the design proposals.
